Solid, quiet and famously durable with the VVT-i petrols. The 2.0 and 2.2 D-4D diesels are the risk: injector seals, head gaskets and (on the 2.2) oil consumption. At 8,000–15,000 PLN a well-kept 1.8 or 2.0 VVT-i is one of the best 'won't die on me' cars in Poland.

The last Avensis: sedan and Wagon only, Valvematic petrols that are very reliable, a much better Multidrive S CVT, and diesels that improved over time. The 1.8 Valvematic is the one to buy; the 2.0 D-4D 1AD still needs head gasket history on early cars.
