Bigger, more luxurious and far more digital than the F15, on the CLAR platform with optional two-axle air suspension and rear-axle steering. The 30d is again the mainstream choice, the 40d the effortless long-distance engine, the quad-turbo M50d a short-lived curiosity, the 40i and M50i the petrol picks and the 45e plug-in the company-car favourite. Mild hybrids arrived in 2020 and the 2023 LCI brought the curved display and more power across the range.

Short-lived four-cylinder entry diesel; rare and not what the car was designed around.
The launch six-cylinder diesel: quiet, strong and economical for a 2.2-tonne car. The mainstream G05 in Poland.
48-volt mild-hybrid version with 286 hp and smoother stop-start. The sweet spot of the range for most buyers.
Facelift 30d with 298 hp, iDrive 8 and the curved display. Mostly dealer stock and ex-lease cars.
Higher-output single-engine six with 700 Nm; replaced the M50d as the fast diesel and is far simpler. Excellent for towing and long distances.
Facelift 40d with 352 hp.
The quad-turbo diesel, dropped in 2020. Ferociously quick and rare; four turbochargers are a lot to keep healthy out of warranty.
Smooth B58 straight-six petrol; a very good engine. The majority of Polish 40i are US imports, many with salvage history, so the title check is the first step.
Facelift 40i with 48-volt assistance and 381 hp.
M Performance V8 with M Sport differential and adaptive M suspension. Nearly X5 M pace with a softer edge; the latest N63 is much improved but still deserves oil-level vigilance.
LCI successor to the M50i with 48-volt mild hybrid; same 530 hp.
Straight-six plug-in with a 24 kWh battery and a realistic 50–70 km electric range: the best of the SUV plug-ins of its time and the company-car favourite. Battery health and charging habits matter.
Facelift plug-in with 489 hp, a larger battery and around 90 km WLTP electric range.
The full M car with the S63 V8 and M xDrive. Withdrawn at the LCI in favour of Competition only.
625 hp Competition; from the 2023 LCI it gains 48-volt assistance and is the only X5 M offered. Very fast, very expensive to run.

LED headlights, leather Vernasca, Live Cockpit Professional, automatic tailgate, adaptive dampers and 19-inch wheels; air suspension and most driver assistance are options.
Design line with satin-aluminium exterior trim, underbody-look inserts and specific wheels. Cosmetic.
Watch out: Often listed for base cars; the aluminium-look bumper inserts and roof rails are the tell.
M aerodynamic package, M steering wheel, sport seats, M wheels, Shadowline trim and, usually, Adaptive M suspension. Appearance and seating, not an engine upgrade; the most common spec on the Polish market.
Watch out: 'M Pakiet' is claimed for M steering wheels and retrofitted bumpers; check the VIN option list (337).
M Performance models: 400 hp quad-turbo diesel (M50d) or 530 hp V8 (M50i/M60i) with M Sport differential, Adaptive M suspension Professional, M brakes and Cerium Grey trim.
Watch out: M50 badges appear on M Sport cars; the engine, quad tailpipes and Cerium Grey accents settle it.
The full M model (F95): 600 or 625 hp S63 V8, M xDrive, M-specific suspension, brakes, bodywork and interior.
Watch out: 'X5 M' is very often written for an M Sport or M50i; a genuine F95 has M-specific wings, quad M tailpipes and the S63 engine.
Plentiful: Polish-salon and ex-lease 30d M Sport cars dominate, followed by German imports and a very large number of US-import 40i and M50i cars, often after salvage auctions. Diesel 30d/40d hold value best; 45e is popular with companies and now flows into the private market. LCI cars are mostly dealer stock and track new prices closely.
